crib bumpers bumper pads in crib?

crib bumpers bumper pads in crib?
we’re about to transfer our 5 month ancient son from our bed/bassinet to the crib. i’ve heard conflicting opinions on bumper pads in cribs. has anyone on here used them? are they safe? my son moves a lot in his sleep, but he seems to know when to go his face when it gets covered. please don’t post answers straight from the web, i want personal experiences and opinions. thank you!

I was worried about it too. I shopped around and found one that was thinner. Some of them are too thick, too soft and too dense.

By that age, I reckon it is ok. We had our son in the crib from 2 weeks ancient and he was fine.

I bought a crib but never used it (we coslept from early on, even though we were never plotting on it up front). But, I have heard that they are fine, in general, as long as your baby doesn’t have any medical issues and that the pads are secure. I would reckon you would be fine with them. My sil used them and never had any issues.

Excellent luck and delight in your small boy!

Really ok at that age. Just make sure they are very secure up against the edge to the crib so he cant get stuck between it and the crib side. I didn’t take mine out until my kids were standing on top of it and I was worried they would fall over the edge.

bumper pads should be ok, until your son starts standing up in his crib… to prevent him from falling out of it by standing on them.

I was worried about the bumber pads too…but..i opted to use them as my son was a mover..and i was worried off his ffet and hands etc getting stuck in bwtween the crib sides….the bumber pads worked well…and he was able to go if he needed to t

I kept finding my son with his face up against the pillow like bumper so I took it out. Then he kept getting his arms and legs stuck through the slots. So I bought a breathable mesh bumper at babies r us for about $25 and have been using it ever since.

I never used the bassinet or let my son sleep in bed with me and I have used the crib and had the bumper pads since day one.
They say that once the baby starts to stand up to take out the bumper pads since he/she can use it to climb out.
Although a lot of groups recommend not using them because of SIDS. See link below for the article.

when my daughter was able to push blankes away I place her in the crib and now she is standing so i took the bumpers out. I did this because i know from experence with my older son that he started using them as a bit of a leg up to try and jump out of his crib. as far as suffocation i have never had a problem with ether child in anyway becoming tangled in the bumper. as long as the bumper is properlysecured to the crib then their shouldnt be a problem. look for new bumpers not used that tie top and bottem on all four corners of the crib and also top and bottom in the middle of bolth long rails. bumpers helped keep my children from geting their limbs stuck in the slats when they slept. they went around alot and so i found it nessasary. Excellent luck hope i could help!

I would use a mesh bumper pad. Fabric bumper pads could cause suffocation. The mesh bumper pads are breathable.

They say don’t to use them until there a bit older but I reckon when ours were able to roll around the cot we place them in just to stop them knocking themselves out or getting arms/legs trapped in the middle of the night. Give it a go and keep an eye on them (which you’ll do anyway, mine are 2 and 4 and I still get up to check there alright in the night!), if there doing OK with them leave it but if it’s worrying you then leave it out for a while. You know best. Delight in.

I was told not to use them as they aren’t really that safe. Tho I did have them in the crib with my 1st son until he was about 6months then I took them out. I don’t reckon I will use the bumper pads this time tho, he wiggles to much and he is only a month ancient. My older son wasn’t so wiggly.

You can buy one called a “breathable bumper” from Target and probably other places. It’s made of mesh so it allows air to circulate, but it’s soft enough to keep the baby from hurting him/herself if they flail out their arms or legs, or bump their heads. I use one in my daughter’s crib.

my aunt told me yesterday she used them on her son..and i plot on using them..i jus bought some today
